Bayern Munich Played Well against Dortmund, Says Carlo Ancelotti

Bayern Munich suffered the first defeat of the season and it came against rivals Borussia Dortmund.

The defeat came about despite the team fielding a front three of Franck Ribery, Robert Lewandowski, and Thomas Muller.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti opted for this different formation in the home of recovering quickly from the dropped points against Hoffenheim. The 1-1 draw at home was a major disappointment for the title favourites as it was the third stalemate of the season. Bayern had more than 65% of the ball, but they did not seem to create many chances in this game.

This led to the manager opting for a different formation in the game against Dortmund. Once again, it was a matter of not converting possession in the chances, as the club had only two shots on target. Dortmund may have had only 37% of the ball, but they managed one more shot on target than Bayern Munich.

Captain Philipp Lahm was critical of the team’s first-half performance, as he felt that there was no decisive pass in the final third of the pitch. The inability to create chances has managed to dent the confidence of the team quite badly. Questions will be asked of manager Carlo Ancelotti and his tactics ahead of the Champions League match against Rostov.

“We aren’t happy because we lost. It was a difficult game. Borussia started well and scored a good goal with a fine combination. We tried to make a comeback. After the opening 20 minutes, we started to play well and tried everything, but couldn’t equalise.Overall, I’m happy with a good performance against a strong team. But of course, the result was not good,” said Ancelotti. “In the first half, we lacked the final decisive pass,” said Lahm. The team have slipped to 2nd place in the table as a result of this defeat.
